GIF is an international trade show and matching event hosted by Osaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry the Osaka Business and Investment Center. It is the ideal way for innovative startup ventures to pitch their pioneering technologies to eager Japanese companies. Since 2019, GIF has showcased 74 startups from 15 countries and been attended by more than 1,600 people from around the world.

Applicants are drawn from all around the world and must pass stringent screening, so the standard is extremely high. Interpreters are on hand for one-on-one meetings with local companies,* so both parties can meet and talk with confidence, and we offer advice to those who are daunted by the prospect of cross-border one-on-one business meetings. GIF is held entirely online, so you can participate and attend from wherever you like. In addition, O-BIC (Osaka Business Invitation Center) provides support for exhibiting startups to expand their business in Osaka, so it is a fruitful event for both Japanese companies and startups.

We met with an Indian startup whose technologies had impressed us. We were looking to invest in the company or pursue a technical tie-up. Having OCCI and the overseas institution that recommended the Indian company alongside us made the process very smooth.
We were interested in the technologies of a food-industry start up. We had a meeting and they have sent us some samples, and we are looking into distributing them in Japan.

ANothing! Participating in GIF is completely free. Even the interpreters we provide for one-on-one meetings are free of charge. (NB: OCCI provides interpreters for the two-day meeting period only. Outside of those periods, interpreters can be arranged, but booking and interpreters’ fees may apply.)
AGIF is an online event. Keynote addresses and live pitches are held as Zoom webinars; one-on-one meetings are held as Zoom meetings.
