Q&A

Participating in GIF

ANothing! Participating in GIF is completely free. Even the interpreters we provide for one-on-one meetings are free of charge. (NB: OCCI provides interpreters for the two-day meeting period only. Outside of those periods, interpreters can be arranged, but booking and interpreters’ fees may apply.)

AGIF Osaka is an online event. Keynote addresses and live pitches are held as Zoom webinars; one-on-one meetings are held as Zoom meetings.

AA total of four separate GIF events are held, one each for specific regions of the world. See the GIF Osaka program for details.

AKeynote addresses, exhibition by exhibiting startups, live pitches, and one-on-one meetings between startups and local companies. Registration (via the GIF website) is required.

AOf course. GIF is an online event, so it is open to people and companies from all industries all around the world.

AAll sorts. We seek entries through startup incubators and industry promotion facilities (public and private) worldwide, and use the information provided to choose startups that are innovative and have high potential for successful matching with Japanese companies.

ASee the archive section for an overview of past events, a list of exhibiting startups, and their online exhibitions.

AOn your Account Page on the GIF website, you’ll find your user information, your program application history, and a breakdown of accesses to live pitches and one-on-one meetings.

AThe application period differs from region to region. Please contact us via the contact form for details.

AEach exhibitor’s live pitches can be viewed on their Online Exhibits pages for a few days after the event.

One-on-One Meetings

AOf course. But to ensure the meeting is beneficial for both parties, be sure to watch the video of the live pitch before the meeting. These are available on the startups’ Online Exhibits pages.

AInformation about each exhibiting startup’s technologies, business, and hopes for partnering with Japanese companies is available on that company’s Online Exhibits page. If you still have any questions in the run-up to your one-on-one meeting, please contact us.

ATo date, GIF has resulted in 250+ one-on-one meetings between 100+ companies. What is more, at GIF 2021, more than 90% of one-on-one meeting participants agreed to carry on their talks. This shows that the meetings are not just “information exchanges” but substantial talks between motivated exhibitors and local companies aimed at pursuing business opportunities.

AYes. At GIF, interpreters are on hand for all one-on-one meetings free of charge. (NB: OCCI provides interpreters for the two-day meeting period only. If the meeting parties arrange to meet again subsequently, interpreters can be arranged, but booking and interpreters’ fees may apply.)

AYes, we do. Cross-border business meetings can be daunting, but the GIF Osaka organizers and our partner institutions offer pre-meeting advice to help alleviate participants’ concerns and guide them through the process. We also offer post-meeting advice based on the meeting’s proceedings. We’re here to help, so don’t hesitate to ask.
